Automox Worklet: Suppress macOS Catalina Upgrade Notifications

Automox Worklet Overview: Suppress macOS Catalina Upgrade Notifications

Apple macOS Catalina, the successor to macOS Mojave, officially arrived in October 2019. Apple sends upgrade notifications to all macOS devices soon after release. While Automox is compatible with macOS Catalina, you may not be ready to deploy it. The purpose of this worklet is to stop and remove the Catalina software update reminder notifications on your Mac endpoints.

Apple installs this upgrade notifier via Apple Software Update. If you are using an internal Software Update Server, you can remove the update macOSInstallerNotification_GM and ‘macOS Catalina’ from scope, if not you can tell your macOS devices to ignore this update.

To create this Worklet, use the evaluation and remediation code scripts located here in the original posting on the Automox community. The evaluation code checks to see if the notifier has been installed or pending installation. The remediation code removes the notifier if it exists.

You can assign this Worklet to any number of your Mac groups and execute the policy. You can also set the Worklet to run on a schedule like any other Worklet. And, you can leverage this worklet for future Apple macOS updates coming soon.

Stay tuned for future Apple macOS updates coming soon.
