Native Patching Support for Adobe Shockwave and Adobe AIR
e’re excited to share our upcoming features with you. Headlined by the first of our ongoing 3rd party software catalog updates and missed patch window capabilities. These two updates will be in production within the next couple of weeks, followed shortly by additional features that will improve your patching experience.
3rd Party Software Additions
We continue to expand the native patching support we offer. This is part of our ongoing cadence to deepen our 3rd party software catalog. The new additions in this release are Adobe AIR and Adobe Shockwave.
If you created a Patch All or Patch All Except policy, both AIR and Shockwave will now be included when these patch policies run. If you have either of these policies and don’t want these new applications to automatically patch, login and adjust the policy to exclude any software you don’t want patched.
In the coming months, we’ll be adding new applications to our software catalog and we’ll continue to provide you with advance notice so you can plan accordingly.
Missed Patch Window
The other new feature you’ll see on March 1st is our missed patch window option. Instead of waiting for the next scheduled updated to apply a missed patch, you now have the option of applying the patch(es) as soon as the device comes back online and checks in with Automox.
This feature can be toggled on and off for each patch policy, providing you with greater control over patch remediation timing. Enabling this feature reduces the amount of time an endpoint is vulnerable to a known CVE.
Microsoft Patch Classifications
In addition to Microsoft’s Critical patch classification, we are adding native patching support for the Recommended and Optional patch classifications. The two new classifications will be enabled together as a feature you can turn on or off.
Disabling Windows 10 Auto Updates
As you know, Windows 10 comes with automatic updates. Unfortunately for IT teams that want to have greater control over which patches are applied and when they’re applied, this preset causes more harm than good. Automox now allows you to turn off the Microsoft Windows 10 auto updates to allow you to manage Windows 10 patches exclusively through your Automox dashboard. This option give you back the control you need to manage Microsoft patching.
End User Notification Update
We are also updating our end user notifications. You now have the option to decouple maintenance window notifications from reboot notifications. We are separating these controls, and selecting one or both is purely optional. This means notifications will only be shown to end users if a tangible action needs to take place, like a reboot. Otherwise, patching will happen in the background without disrupting the end user.
Automatic Reboot Setting Update
Lastly, we are implementing smart reboots. If you have this feature enabled, you'll notice that reboots will now only happen when a patch requires it.
